Zub's Comic Release Party

This one is featuring photos from late 2006. Jim Zubkavich (or Layout, Animation History and Character Animation teacher) had a release party for the Graphic Novel version of his online comic 'The Makeshift Miracle'. So a bunch of us headed downtown for boozing, drawing, talking comics and eating somebody's left over Macaroni and Cheese. Don't know who's it was... but it was delicious!

Needless to say Zub (and a number of us students) got pretty hammed, so Kareoke was (naturally) right around the bend.

Hey Gang,
Now I know that the original point of this site was to post the goings on from the Peterborough Crew working at Super Popular Studios... but as those days have passed and the Animators are still out causing trouble i figured this ol' Blog still had some use in it... and so I present...

ANI-ADVENTURES

The Seneca Crew headed downtown December 19th for a day of sketching. The turnout for the event, spear headed by Jim Graves, was incredible- someone counted 45 of us at one point. First years, Second Years, Maya and Gaming kids and even some January intakes turned up at Union Station and then moved through the city hitting some food courts, the Eaton's centre, Mr GreenJeans, the Friar and Firkin (only to be turned away) and then up to Bloor for pubing and a night finished with Glorious Kareoke.

Summer Events Wrap Up!

This has been for sure, one of the best summers of our lives up here in ANI House. Peterborough has treated us very well and in an effort to put a close on things here is a brief catalog (in no particular order) of all the stunts we pulled, events we attended, things we saw, said and did during our time at ANI House, Summer 2006...

-Drunken swimming in the poluted Peterborough River on our first night
-Worked on "Peterborough Time" Cartoon with Barney at Super Popular Studio's
-Bryan's fight with a drunken Cowboy with a Mustache at the Trash, then talking his way out of it when the Cowboy's friends waited for him outside the bar
-Derek's fight with drunks on the street while driving home from the Festival of Lights and the drunks running after us down the street while we drove away "What have you got"- "I've got a Car..." then peeling away
-Derek Tackling Barney at the Ranch, while quite drunk
-Steph slaming Aaron's crotch with the car door
-Partying at the Ranch till sunrise, Andy almost burning Bryan, Derek and Karin to the ground in the process
-Mitch spitting and spraying whatever he was drinking onto Bryan on many occasions
-Bike Trip to the Zoo, and ending up on the wrong side of the river resulting in us going 'the long way'
-Our own backyard Pool and after work Pool Parties
-Bryan attempts to be pool life guard and steps clean through the backyard table
-Derek Busted by cops on first night for climbing the huge rocking chair
-Our crack whore, drug dealing, boarding house neighbors- or 'The Others' as we refered to them
-Stealing a recycling box from the downtown and dumping it onto the sidewalk while we ran away

-Our ENTIRE last night adventure- Police busting The Others, Drinks by the Fire, Piling into Barney's Van to go to his place, Drinking Raspberry Beer there, Playing in the play ground, Derek Falls out of Tree, Walk through Spiderweb Bridge, 200am Walk down into valley for a 'short cut' and getting very lost and very wet, climbing the cliff in the dark, Barney and Em fight (thankfully resolved), pictures on the bridge, climbing the buildings again and everyone making it to the top of the city, walking home at 430am laughing the whole way and at work for 9am.

That's all i can think of at the moment. But like it's been said- it was one hell of a summer!

You Blew it #6 and #7

Things being as busy for the Animators as they have been updating the blog has been difficult at best! That hasn't, however, slowed them down from 'Blowing It' each week.
The You Blew It award #6 goes to one Bryan Murdoch... It was a hot summer day when this blow it took place. Bryan and te rest of the crew made a decision to finally fill up there small pool, not a kiddy pool but not a real size pool, its about...well thats besides the point. So after sitting in the pool until it filled up Bryan decided to get out and dry off, he then preceeded to try and be a lifeguard. So he went over to the coner of our backyard and tested a very sturdy card table by putting presure on it with his hands. He then found a chair. His next mistake was then placing the chair on top on the table. Then utter the words and I quote " I hope this holds my weight" Bryan then placed his foot on top of the table and and then tried to climb onto of the chair, well remeber that table? It gave way and bryans leg went right thourgh the table.
Congrats Bryan you are the 6th recipient of the You Blew Award bring your total to 3.

The 7th You Blew It award went to our Quarter Asian Aaron. After his bedroom telephone stopped working he decided to use his extensive training in phone repair (or at least that was training that he implied he had) to open up the phone jack and 'tinker' around inside.
Long story short this tinkering took out every phone in the house except for Derek's.
A week later the strangely skeletal (and very enthusiastic about phone repair) phone repair man came by and repaired all the damage. He racked it up to 'Tinkering'.
Congrats Aaron on yet another win!

Summer Low Point

Just a heads up to those out there checking on our lives. Tonight Derek, Bryan and our boss Barney took a moment out of our busy lives to take advantage of a free Peterborough dinner for the homeless. A meal intended for the poor and mentally disabled of entirely vegan food. The best part was that they moved to the front of the line quickly and took what could only be described as 'more than their share'.

Then it was off to crash a City Council Meeting and then to the Pig's Ear for Beer.

"Oh What a Night"

You Blew It #5

It was on a balmy Monday evening that Bryan asked Aaron to assist him in lighting the BBQ. He had just turned on the propane valve and was moving up to turning on the valve for the actual burner and needed some assistance in putting the lit flame into lighting position.

What neither gent happened to notice was the hissing sound of the propane escaping from the burner (the same one assumed to be turned off).

The resulting Fireball that engulfed them both was estimated at about 4 feet high. With some strange luck neither lost their eyebrows... though they did loose the hair all-over their hands.

This marks the first time that the You Blew It award has been won by two individuals for the same Blow It moment! Congrats to Aaron and Bryan for trailblazing their way into some burnt hands.

You Blew It #4

It's that time again friends. After a brief vacation (away from each other) over the Canada Day Weekend where, so help us, none of us 'Blew It' large enough to even recognize on this site, we come back with our 4th winner.

Derek, during Animation House Party #1, was enjoying a serious Rock Out session in his room with Bryan, Steph and Frankie. They had decided to take a break from the All Request Saturday Night on The Wolf 101.5fm (who had played 'Any Way You Want It' by Journey by our request earlier!) to take in some choice musical selections. "Baba O'Reily" by The Who ('Teenage Wasteland' to you non-music snobs) began to play and Derek jumped up onto his bed- with the intention of rocking harder than the rest... and that's when it happened.

Derek Rocked SO HARD he smashed two of the support beams out of the bottom of his bed to a loud crashing sound. This only phased him for a moment, and then he returned to showing the rest of the party what 'Rocking out looked like'.

You take your title back this week Derek- and showed the rest of the world what dancing to "Baba O'Reilly" should look and feel like.

ANIMATION HOUSE PARTY

On Saturday July 8th, in the year two thousand and six, the Animation House had it's first Animation House Party!

Those able to attend enjoyed Campfires, BBQ Action, Chips (curtousy of the Lays Chip Factory Dumpster!) Live Porch dancing (thanks to The Wolf 101.5fm playing our requested 'Anyway you Want it' by Journey), Derek dancing on his bed so hard he broke it, and lets not forget Bryan's Funnel 'The Green Lantern' making children into adults one beer at a time.

Eventually the party split into two- one group going for a drunken romp through the town, the other heading to Peterborough's cheapest bar "The Trashateria" (where Bryan narrowly avoided getting beaten up by 8 guys).

Thanks to all those that were able to attend, hope to see you all at the next one!

You Blew It Once More

Hey everyone! Derek here!

We had a scary week up here in Peterborough, as we made it all the way to Friday night without one single "blew it".
Note to Self: Need to work on creating better descriptive verbs.

Work was plentiful but a little on the dull side, all in preparation for our first upcoming week of actual animating.

It should also be noted that this was the first weekend that all of us here at ANI House spent the weekend. Weird.

Anyways, Friday rolled around and we all got invited to Barneys show with his comedy ground the Shrimps. I only tackled him once.
Fun was had by all, people laughed, Bryan got a sausage that was in a man's pants thrown at him, I saw a man changing into a diaper in the bathroom, you know, your standard Friday night.

Things were going great until we decided to head back home. We were passing over Jacksons (RAAAAGH) Creek in town.

This is the creek that we have been told a million times is the end destination of most toilets in Peterborough.

There, we all saw a strange, hairy creature coming out of some brush and making it's way through filthy waters.
A photographer Karin Asp, happened to be on the scene and managed to photograph the horrible beast.

If you look closely, it bares a striking resemblance in form and pose to the famous bigfoot photograph from back in the 1960s.

After a few minutes a couple people ran to the edge of the creek and tried to warn the creature of the disgusting condition of the water it was walking through, but it ran off into a near by sewer tunnel.

Our correspondents then raced up onto the bridge over the sewer tunnel, hoping to get a glimpse of the creature. A tense 5 minutes passed without a sound. Then, without warning, the creature pounced into the light of the storm drain.

Later on, our boys in the lab were able to clarify the image to get a better look at the beast:

What happened next is still under debate, but what everyone can agree on, is that the creature then proceeded to yell up to the crowd that "he'd be right back," and ran off down the tunnel.

After a time that seemed like an eternity passed, and then an observer happened to look across Jackson creek towards a small get-together that some random Peterborough locals were having, and there, the creature was seen climbing up the edge of the creek bed, absolutely covered in spiderwebs, emerging right into the middle of the party of strangers.

The creature then ran off in the general direction of Bolivar Street, never to be seen again.

Congratulations Bryan Murdoch. You are this weeks recipient of the "You Blew It" award.

Honorable Mention: While out at the Festival of Lights Derek (in his second week of honorable mention) was Caricaturing a young lady when Bryan warned him that a police officer was walking towards him. Derek then announced to the crowd "Hello Officer, you're looking SEXY today" Only to turn around and see the officer standing over his shoulder. Thankfully (or regretfully, depending on how you look at it) the officer did not hear Derek's comment.

You Blew It #2

In our second week here in Peterborough our lone lady of the house, Steph, Blew it the biggest- and took the prize home.

While spending a night out at the Glorious Warnoff Farm Steph was heard to exlaim to Mitch (as well as the group) what was surely intended to be a pretty good burn... but instead came out;

"Mitch could give anyone a Stiffy!"

This was immediately followed with an extremely embarrassed"Oh crap!" and then a stammering of trying to salvage her ruined insult. But it was too late. We'd all heard it.

Steph takes the prize due to the sheer embarrasment she took for such a comment, the fact that Mitch will forever have that bragging right and the fact that the insult backfired directly ten times worse onto her than it would have, if it went as planned.

So to all readers beware: apparently Mitch can give anyone a Stiffy- be they a man or a woman.

*Honourable mention- Derek (aka The Hans) for tackling Barney, our boss, while quite drunk.

Interesting fact: The girls who lived at the house before us were radicall, militant feminists. At least that's the impression we get. There are little reminders of them everywhere, especially the upstairs bathroom.
This is what I have to look at every time I take a crap. Probably because I'm too lazy to take it down-except to scan into the computer so I can scrutinize about it pointlessly.

Here we go, the star of episode one of Peterborough Time. This crazy frequents the main boulevard singing songs while holding our national rag proudly.
He's just one of the seventy characters in the film we are working on at Super Popular Studios. Fourteen down fifty-six more to go! Week two and we're getting better aquainted with the local legends of Peterborugh.

The "You Blew It" Award History and Explaination.

For some the idea of being awarded the "You Blew It" Award brings shame. While others strive to 'Blow it' large enough to take the title.

The 'You Blew It' Award began being passed out in Vanier Residence, at York University, in the fall of 2002. The Award, shaped as a Horse's behind (though some have argued it is infact a Donkey) was found at a Value Village by Bryan Murdoch. Over the next few years in Residence the award was passed around.

To properly explain the process of how one is given the award you should first hear some past recipiants. Some examples include a girl dropping her new cell phone in the toilet while drunk, while she was peeing. Another was a gentleman who drank so much one Hallowe'en he was rushed to Hospital with Alcohol poisoning- while painted green like the Hulk. Or the time a certain Don let Kelly Dufus sleep in his bed (for anyone that knew Ms Dufus you'd understand why it could be deemed a serious mistake).

Everyone wants to get the Award, but on their own terms. This however goes against the process of selection. The group decides at the end of the week, or month in some cases, who screwed up the most: taking into account hilarity, embarrassment, long lasting effects etc...

So as the Summer in the Animation House gets off to a start we have decided to give out the award weekly. Stay tuned to see who recieves it each week!

The You Blew it Award Winner #1

The Winner of the 'You Blew It' Award for the week of June 3rd to 10th is one Derek Gowand. Derek has the distinction of being the first to be awarded the much sought after prize this summer.

He was deemed worthy of 'Blew It' distinction after he drunkenly jumped into the Peterborough River after a night at the Trashateria. What Derek may or may not have known was that Mitch and Bryan were peeing in the very same river at that very moment- earning him his title. Extra points however go to Derek for 'Blowing It' and then giving the aformentioned Mitch and Bryan the idea of going into the water as well. All had a merry swim in the sewagy and freshly pee'd in waters. Later locals would tell us that not even dogs will swim in that river. What a night.

Thank you for your tireless efforts and leadership Derek.

This summer Cereal Box, Stretch, Tennis Shoe, Ginger and "Steve"- aka Aaron, Derek, Steph, Bryan and Mitch headed out to Peterborough. We're working as interns at Super Popular Studios under our teacher Barney. We moved into our own house and started the first ever animation fraternity/sorority. ANI House! Short for Alpha Nu Iota under the greek alphabet.
As second year animation students at Seneca College we thought this would be a great oppurtunity to get some experience before entering our third and final year.
So watch as we design characters, animate and work on storyboards. The only thing that's hit harder than the bottle here is the sketch book. If that doesn't make sense we draw, draw, draw!
Quake in horror as we try to keep up with the dishes, laundry and groceries. Watch as we navigate busy streets on defective bicycles and avoid the creepy boarding house white trash and their domestic disputes and keep their army of cats from invading our house. As well as trying to forget that John Wayne Gacey's basement made it's way under our house. If you haven't seen it it's terrifying!
